On Monday February 14th Chicago was one of many cities that participated in delivering thank you letters to Spain at Spanish Embassies around the country. The letters thanked the people of Spain and the Prosecutor who is moving toward prosecuting former Bush Lawyers for War Crimes in the so called “war on terror”. You can read the full report of these deliveries at David Swanson’s website www.warisacrime.org here . And below is a letter written to World Can’t Wait from a couple who attended one of these events in Chicago on their experience of the delivering the letter and why they believe it is necessary that the U.S. prosecute these war criminals.
To World Can’t Wait:
It was a pleasure and honor to participate in today’s visit to Chicago’s Consulate of Spain to urge that government to enforce international law against what the Nuremburg Tribunal defined as “The Supreme Crime” – the initiating of an unprovoked war of aggression (against Iraq by Bush and continued by Obama). That and the U.S.’s official torture policy. Patriotic Americans are deeply humiliated by Obama’s false claim that “We do not torture!” while he abets that abominable practice by obstructing attempted prosecutions of self-admitted torturers Bush and Cheney. Obama’s claim that “we do not torture” is especially obscene given his criminal creation of impunity for that crime. It is also humiliating that, due to the current U.S. government’s complicity in the crimes of the Bush gang, we once-proud Americans must beseech the Spanish government to be the world’s moral leader in this crucial matter.
Our deepest gratitude to the people of Spain and their government;
